This week I wanted to delve into my own skin story with acne, and how I became the Acne Specialist that I am today.
I have always been incredibly interested in skin, I use to watch my mam apply her Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, Toner and moisturiser every day when I was little and I was always fascinating with what she was doing.
When I became a teenager I really struggled with cystic acne, I felt like a monster to put it shortly, we tried so many different ways to help my skin but we didn’t even know where to start. I ended up after several different doctors prescriptions, being referred to the hospital to see a dermatologist who then put me on Roaccutane. If you don’t know about Roaccutane it’s a awful medication to be on, as the side effects are horrific.
All of that was a lot to go through as a young teen but after a year of being on the medication on an incredibly high dosage I was taken off it as my cystic acne had calmed down. It’s really been a journey with my skin, my mental health and my confidence.
Being bullied for having acne of course is detrimental to your mental health and it took me years and years before I felt okay being seen. Later in my teen years I started looking for more ways to help my skin and in particular something to help with the acne scars I was now left with. That is when I started having regular professional facials to help me improve my skin, to help improve my scarring and most of all to help me gain my confidence back. This helped so much and I felt like a changed person.
I knew I needed a career change and that’s when I found the beauty industry, something I felt indebted to for helping me to become the person that I am today. I wanted to help people feel confident in themselves with gorgeous improved skin and some quality self care time. And so that’s exactly what I did.
I have had the absolute pleasure of meeting so many amazing people and I can’t wait to meet more of you so I can help you too.
If you would love my help with your acne, and healing it holistically without medication or any quick fixes that don't last head to Acne Retreat, and read all about my programme there.
